About the role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Team Leader to join our Illawarra SSFP team. In this role, you will lead a team of dedicated school counsellors, ensuring the delivery of high-quality support services for students, their families, and the school community. As Team Leader, you’ll be responsible for driving service excellence, overseeing team performance, and ensuring impactful and culturally responsive service delivery to students, families, and schools.
The role is a permanent, full-time position located in the Illawarra.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of skilled counsellors and practitioners, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and continuous improvement
- Oversee the delivery of mental health and well-being services to ensure high standards and alignment with CatholicCare’s values and mission
- Collaborate with school principals, stakeholders, and community partners to understand needs, promote services, and strengthen partnerships
- Conduct regular supervision, performance reviews, and professional development sessions with team members to ensure effective service delivery
- Manage case allocation, monitor workloads, and provide guidance on complex cases as needed
- Ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and best practices in school-based mental health and family services
- Support continuous improvement by monitoring program outcomes and contributing to program development
- Collaborate with senior management on strategic initiatives, reporting, and service enhancement

What you will need
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a background in mental health, and a passion for supporting young people and families. You will bring an empathetic, solution-focused approach to your work and thrive in a team-oriented environment.
Key Selection Criteria
- Degree in Social Work, Social Science, Counselling, or Psychology. Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), Clinical Membership with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), or general registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Up-to-date knowledge and recent experience in the provision of Clinical Supervision
- Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a mental health, counselling, or social services setting
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with children, young people, and families, preferably within a school environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, manage, and delegate tasks effectively
- A commitment to CatholicCare’s mission and values, and to supporting the mental health and well-being of young people
- Current driver’s license and Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
