Your Role
Applications are invited from suitable applicants to join the staff of Shalom College as Assistant Canteen Convenor. This is a term-time position for 38 hours per week, commencing from 14 July 2025 or as negotiated with the successful applicant.
Typical duties include:
- Contribute with the day-to-day operation of the Canteen, including daily opening and closing procedures
- Ensure adherence to School Policies, Procedures and Rules and within the guidelines and processes relevant to the canteen set out by the Principal and Deputy Principal. Notify Canteen Convenor of any potential or actual hazard or dangerous occurrences.
- Assist with the planning and execution of catering for special events, meetings and functions held at the College.
- Preparation and cooking of meals, ensuring high standards of food safety.
- Ensure all Food Handling and Preparation Practices are followed including when receiving food, personal hygiene, preparing and handling food and cooking food in line with Food Safety Regulations.
- Assist supervising Year 11 and Year 12 students each week for their Certificate Course
- Checking the counted daily takings. Daily takings will be counted by at least one other worker, in accordance with Auditor requirements
- In consultation with the Canteen Convenor assist designing menus.
- Assist establishing and maintaining volunteer rosters.
- Assist supervising and supporting all volunteers.
- Deliver high-level customer service standards across all aspects of canteen
- Ensure quality and quantity of canteen deliveries and supplies.
- Support special event days and other catered school functions as required.
- Ensure that correct food hygiene practices are maintained in accordance with associated food legislation, regulations, and standards.
- Maintain the canteen’s cleanliness to approved health and safety standards.

The successful applicant will have an understanding of, and a commitment to, the ethos of Catholic education. In addition, you will have excellent time management skills and well developed interpersonal skills.

Mandatory Requirements
- A current valid Blue Card under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 (WWC Act) and valid Suitability Notice is a requirement of the position.
