Central Highlands Regional Council is currently seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Saleyards Officer to support the efficient and effective running of our Saleyards facility.As a key player in our Saleyards team, you’ll work closely with the Saleyards Manager to ensure daily operations are conducted to the highest standards of safety, compliance, and customer service. You'll also play a crucial leadership role, stepping up when required to oversee the full operations of the facility.What you’ll be doing:
- Assisting in the management of day-to-day Saleyards operations and administration
- Maintaining accurate livestock records and supporting reporting requirements
- Ensuring site compliance with WH&S, biosecurity, and animal welfare standards
- Overseeing routine maintenance and implementing the Saleyards Asset Management Plan
- Supporting infrastructure and capital works projects with a hands-on approach
- Building strong relationships with agents, vendors, and livestock transport operators
- Identifying opportunities for operational improvements and cost efficiencies
- Being available for after-hours operations when required
- Mentoring and supporting team members as a senior presence on site
What we’re looking for:
- Solid experience in saleyards, livestock management or rural operations
- A working knowledge of WH&S, biosecurity, and animal handling practices
- Strong communication and administrative skills
- Ability to work independently and lead in the absence of the Manager
- A proactive, solution-focused mindset with a passion for regional industries
- Flexibility to support early morning and after-hours livestock activities
- Minimum of Queensland C class provisional driver’s licence.
