Central Highlands Regional Council is seeking a reliable and eager-to-learn individual to join our Maintenance Rural team as a Civil Construction Apprentice. This is an exciting opportunity to gain full-time, paid work while working towards a Certificate III in Civil Construction (Plant Operations).

As an apprentice, you’ll gain practical skills and hands-on experience through on-the-job learning and formal training. If you’re enthusiastic about working outdoors, learning to operate specialised machinery, and contributing to important road and drainage infrastructure across the region—this could be the perfect opportunity for you. To be considered for this opportunity, you will need:

  • A willingness to learn and a positive, can-do attitude
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills
  • Teamwork skills and the ability to follow instructions in a hands-on environment
  • An interest in working outdoors and learning to operate specialised machinery
  • The ability to complete a Nationally Recognised Qualification (Certificate III in Civil Construction - Plant Operations) within 36 months
  • Commitment to undertaking the requirements of the associated qualification
  • Willingness to stay in camp accommodation outside of Emerald occasionally as required
  • Availability to work a 9-day fortnight
  • A minimum of a Queensland C class provisional driver’s licence (or be eligible and willing to obtain one within 2 years of commencement)
  • A General Construction Induction Card (White Card), or willingness to obtain prior to commencement

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must:

  • Be at least 15 years of age
  • Meet citizen, residency, and visa requirements to undertake an apprenticeship
  • Not hold a qualification equal to or higher than the apprenticeship qualification in the same field
