Central Highlands Regional Council is seeking a motivated Project Specialist who thrives on collaboration and is passionate about building a strong, positive safety culture. In this role, you’ll lead and deliver key components of our Safety‑First Project, working closely with leaders and staff across council.  As we embark on the Safety‑First initiative, you’ll play a central role in a dedicated focus group, helping to define best‑practice standards and strengthen our safety management systems. Your ideas, your influence, and your commitment will help drive meaningful change.

In this role, you will support the organisation by:

  • Provide project management expertise and leverage other subject matter experts to drive the Safety-First outcomes for each of the identified initiatives.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of council’s safety management systems to ensure project initiatives are targeted appropriately.
  • Prepare project implementation plans and ensure project are completed on time, within budget and to the desired quality standard.
  • Coordinate project management activities ensuring effective planning, approvals, research, analysis, procurement, communication strategies and employee engagement activities are clearly defined.
  • Undertake stakeholder engagement activities for the project, ensuring projects are viable, alternative viewpoints are considered, and feedback or challenges are incorporated.
  • Foster and maintain positive, working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports on projects and initiatives ensuring accurate measurement of deliverables are captured.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to possess:

  • Significant knowledge and experience of Council’s policy, procedures and programs 
  • Qualifications in project management or related discipline
  • Experience and understanding of Queensland’s Work Health & Safety Legislation and Codes of Practices
  • Well-developed project management and implementation experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and develop effective external stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and highly developed presentation skills.
  • Capable of overseeing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Previous experience in preparing submissions for grants and funding opportunities.
  • Qld C Class Drivers Licence
