Central Highlands Regional Council Rangers team has a position available in Blackwater. We are looking for someone who is passionate about educating and promoting legislation around council's local laws and policies about responsible animal management practices to the community. To be successful in this role you will enjoy talking to people, be inquisitive, resilient and empathetic but still have the confidence to enforce council’s local laws and deal with difficult situations. You will be well supported by the Rangers team who will help you to polish your technical skills and expertise in compliance, enforcement or animal management. 

In this diverse role, your daily activities will include:

  • Providing high level customer service to members of the public and internal stakeholders
  • Completing detailed reports relating to ranger services
  • Conducting patrols and carrying out inspections/investigations enforcing domestic animal legislation and local laws
  • Investigation of breaches to local laws and statutory provisions
  • Issuing infringement notices
  • Recording and reporting of incidents
  • Recommending legal action and providing evidence in court hearings
  • Cleaning and maintaining the animal management facility

To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to possess:

  • Ability to complete enforcement activities in line with local laws and other legislation
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement in relation to enforcement procedures and local laws and other legislation
  • Sound computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with well-developed written and oral communication skills
  • Current Queensland C Class drivers licence
  • Ability to undertake Local Government Worker and Authorised Person training (training provided upon commencement)
  • Ability to undertake training for permits/approvals for ACDC, 1080 operators’ licence, First Aid and CPR
