A rare and exciting opportunity has become available for a Saleyards Manager to join Central Highlands Regional Council.  

Reporting directly to the General Manager Commercial and Corporate Services, you will lead, organise, manage and provide direction and oversight for all activities and operations of the saleyard facility. As Saleyards Manager you will be also responsible for facility operational/asset management plans, capital works, annual budgets, and assisting with long term financial sustainability for the saleyard business.
To be successful in this unique role you will require industry experience with a proficient understanding of livestock and saleyard procedures.  Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential to drive change management initiatives that contribute to the growth and durability of operations and outstanding service. 

We are looking for a highly motivated leader with a strong background in the industry and preferred formal qualification in Business, Commerce, Agribusiness or related field.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to possess:

  • Minimum of Queensland C class provisional driver’s licence.
  • Queensland Weapons Licence and eligibility to be group licence holder for council.
  • Minimum Diploma level or higher in Business, Commerce, Agribusiness, or other related field of study Or minimum 5 years industry experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing livestock operations and saleyard functions.
  • Knowledge and experience in the techniques for livestock handling and management.
  • High level customer service focus and well developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to think strategically in delivering organisational outcomes.
  • Understanding of animal welfare legislation and best practice and be able to identify all animal welfare issues.
  • Demonstrated understanding of procurement, budgeting and financial management.
  • High level interpersonal, negotiation and problem solving skills that engender confidence in the management of the facility.
  • Experience in report writing and annual budgets.
