Central Highlands Regional Council is currently seeking a Community Development & Engagement Officer who will be responsible for planning, initiating and conducting community development programs, events and projects to promote quality of life for all people across the Central Highlands region, and; Supporting council to engage with the community in a meaningful and efficient manner with their community engagement initiatives and community planning projects with a focus on online methods.

In this busy role, you will support the organisation by:

  • Contribute to the successful delivery of council's community planning, development, and engagement activities consistent with council’s Corporate Plan and other strategic documents, including those required by legislation.
  • Contribute to facilitating, implementing, and reporting on regional and place-based community planning.
  • Deliver on council’s community development programs, initiatives, and events across the Central Highlands region.
  • Undertake community engagement, including planning and delivery of activities, community meetings, consultations, events and reporting. Keep abreast of new approaches and innovation for community engagement. 
  • To actively participate in ongoing training and self-development to achieve continuous improvement for yourself and council.
  • Taking reasonable care for health and safety of yourself and others, complying with reasonable instruction and co-operating with CHRC policy and procedure per ‘Duties of Worker’ contained in the Work Health and Safety Act as amended.
  • Provide support to community and council with advocacy activities.
  • Facilitate the administration of council’s online engagement platforms ‘Have Your Say Central Highlands’, 'Smartygrants’ and council use of ‘My Community Directory’. Provide advice regarding digital public relations to support engagement activities.
  • Undertake tasks including procurement, compiling statistics, meeting preparation, minute taking and drafting reports.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to possess:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in relevant disciplines, such as community development, community engagement, customer service and/or marketing.
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging and partnering with the community to design and deliver community development programs, events, and initiatives. 
  • Demonstrated competence using Microsoft Office applications.
  • High level of digital literacy with the ability to learn new online platforms.
  • High level of project management, report writing, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills in a diverse work environment.
  • Willingness and commitment to work flexible hours (i.e. evenings and weekends where required).
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, working both independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-skilled team.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Qualification in a related field and/or equivalent level of expertise and experience to undertake the role attained through previous appointments.
  • Minimum of Queensland C class provisional drivers licence.
  • Queensland Working with Children Blue Card.
