Central Highlands Regional Council is currently seeking a Sports and Recreation Officer to join the team! 

The Sport and Recreation Officer will be responsible for developing and promoting sport, within the Central Highlands region. The Sport and Recreation Officer will ensure effective use of council facilities and in conjunction with key stakeholders, implement, manage and support sporting and active organisations under Council’s Tenure Framework. This position will be the key contact for
Sport and Recreation clubs and user groups in area. The Sports and Recreation Officer will liaise with other council departments to assist in a streamlined communication process with user groups and council. 
The position will foster strong networks with sporting and recreation to assist with governance and club and facility development. This position will also provide support to Sport and Recreation related programs, events and projects for Central Highlands Regional Council.

At times in this role, you will be required to travel outside of standard work hours for community engagement and events.

In this busy role, your daily activities will include:

  • Develop and implement sports and recreation programs
  • Managing the bookings and events for the various sports and recreation facilities including show grounds and sporting venues
  • Actively engaging with the local community, sports clubs and the broader community
  • Managing community grant applications
  • Coordinating scheduled and responsive maintenance activities of the sports and recreation facilities
  • Completing a high volume of administration tasks in a deadline driven environment
  • Advocate on behalf of the community to other levels of Government, organisations and institutions about the needs of the community, funding requirements and other social impacts using an evidence-based approach.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to possess:

  • A passion for providing diverse sport and recreation opportunities to your community
  • Strong administration and organisational skills
  • A flexible approach whilst focusing on delivering results
  • Project management, report writing and presentation skills as well as a demonstrated ability to engage and partner with community groups and clubs.
  • Well-developed organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines, work independently and within a team environment.
  • Positive customer service centric approach
  • Current Queensland C Class provisional Drivers Licence
  • Queensland Working with Children Blue Card
