JOB SUMMARY:
Supervises and assists patrons in the arena and rink and operates the Skate Shop and all related equipment.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides supervision of patrons ensuring adherence to the rules and regulations of the rink and arena
- Issues skates and helmets and shows participants the proper care and use of this equipment
- Performs maintenance on skates and helmets
- Operates and maintains Skate Shop equipment including skate sharpener and exhaust collector; checks and reports any items needing attention to the Supervisor
- Performs light maintenance duties: sweeping, mopping, and surface cleaning
- Operates the music system for the Skate Shop, arena, and rink
- Administers First Aid to Recreation Complex users when required
- Attends crew safety talks and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries, and near misses
- Maintains professional and technical requirements for the position
- Performs related duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 15 years of age
- Advanced skating ability
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate
- WHMIS Certificate
- AED Training
- Up-to-date knowledge of the City’s computerized systems, administrative systems, and office technology as required
- Ability to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 3 months' experience working with the public or supervising children
- An equivalent combination of experience and education
PAY RATE:
This is a union position with the current 2023 pay rate of $26.94 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.
HOURS of WORK:
Varied schedule including daytime, evening, and weekend shifts.
