JOB SUMMARY:

The RCMP Administrative Floater provides clerical and administrative support for the RCMP Detachment, on an as-needed basis, filling in for incumbents in a variety of administrative roles during periods of absence. The Administrative Floater must demonstrate a high degree of adaptability, professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail. The incumbent works in a policing environment and may have periodic exposure to extremely graphic and disturbing material as part of administrative, transcription, or records‑related duties. Performs related duties as required.

 

As a condition of employment, the incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides a broad range of administrative support including:

  • Receiving in-person and telephone inquiries from the public and other sources.
  • Responding to or re-directs the inquiries and requests as appropriate.
  • Effectively and accurately transcribing oral statements made to the RCMP.
  • Preparing and typing routine correspondence, reports, and forms using established templates and procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date electronic and paper filing systems in accordance with RCMP and municipal standards.
  • Performing basic financial or accounting-related tasks such as processing invoices or data tracking as required.
  • Entering and extracting data into/from a variety of computer programs.
  • Collecting and distributing mail, fax transmissions, emails, letters, etc.
  • Following safe work procedures, attending safety talks and required safety training, and reporting hazards, injuries and near misses.
  • Performing related duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training:

Grade 12 diploma. Typing speed of 55 wpm. RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance.

Ability to obtain the following training within the trial period: W.H.M.I.S. Certificate.

 

Experience:  One (1) year of administrative experience including the use of custom software applications

Considerable knowledge and skill in office systems and administrative procedures. Strong attention to detail, and accuracy with data entry tasks. Ability to effectively proofread documents for accuracy. Demonstrated commitment to customer service. Ability to appropriately direct customer concerns to facilitate problem resolution. Excellent interpersonal skills for providing information and service to the public, other departments and co-workers. Ability to work within and contribute to a proactive team environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage simultaneous completion of a number of varied tasks. Ability to effectively adapt to a changing work environment. Ability to handle exposure to extremely graphic and disturbing information. Ability to effectively respond to a high volume of work. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a high level of confidentiality. Knowledge of and demonstrated skills in using computer applications pertaining to the work. Advanced word processing skills and intermediate level skill with spreadsheets. Knowledge of health and safety regulations, occupational hazards, and safe work procedures as it relates to the position.

 

PAY RATE:

The incumbent will be paid at the established rate of pay for the position they are filling.  Base rate $35.65 per hour. 

 

HOURS OF WORK:

7:45 am – 5:00 pm, Tuesday to Friday, up to 8.75 hours a day, up to 35 hours per week.

 

Please note: This position is to provide extra capacity and to cover for absences such as sick and vacation relief.  It requires availability for both short-notice and pre-scheduled work.
