JOB SUMMARY:
This role provides intermediate-level accounting expertise in a variety of capacities within the Finance Department. The incumbent can expect to assist and relieve multiple roles including the Accounting Clerk - Receivable, Accounting Clerk - Payable, Senior Clerk - Property Tax/Utilities and Accounting Clerk - Payroll, depending on the operational needs of the Department, and provides support to the Senior Accountants and management staff as required. This position requires a high degree of integrity and trustworthiness, as well as the ability to deal discretely with confidential financial and employee information and requires a satisfactory background check. Performs related duties.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
Grade 12 diploma. 2-year full-time diploma in Accounting from an accredited post-secondary institution.
Minimum alphanumerical net data entry speed of 6,000 keystrokes per hour. Minimum net typing speed of 40 words per minute.
Experience:
A minimum of two (2) years related accounting experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of accounting principals and practices. Demonstrated expertise with financial software. Demonstrated expertise in balancing and reconciling various accounts and general ledgers. The ability to accurately and quickly enter large amounts of numerical data. Strong attention to detail. Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal discretely with sensitive information. Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to simultaneously complete a number of tasks. Ability to manage a demanding workload and effectively meet multiple deadlines. Working knowledge of federal and provincial legislation, collective agreements, and salary administration. The ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities and assignments. Demonstrated initiative, sound judgement and the ability to facilitate problem resolution. Demonstrated commitment to customer service. Excellent interpersonal skills for providing information and responding to requests from employees and other departments. Ability to work within and contribute to a positive team environment. Ability to keep current with changing legislation and regulatory requirements. Ability to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner. Intermediate level of skill with Microsoft Excel. Basic level of skill with Microsoft Word.
PAY RATE:
This is a union position with the current pay rate of $41.25 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.
HOURS OF WORK:
8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, up to Up to 7 hours per day, up to Up to 35 hours per week.
