City of Newcastle (CN) is looking for a passionate Visitor Services Officer to oversee the daily operations of our new Visitor Information Centre, setting high customer service standards to ensure a positive and informative experience for all visitors. This is a permanent full-time role (35 hours per week) with a part-time job share option available.

Utilising your excellent communication skills and proven experience in tourism, marketing, sales or customer service, you’ll advocate and promote CN to visitors. Supporting the Visitor Services Coordinator, you will roster and supervise all casual staff and volunteers, provide accurate and timely information to visitors about the Newcastle LGA and Hunter region, undertake general administration duties, process the sale of merchandise, and manage the centre’s displays, among other duties.

To be successful in this job you will have:

Essential

  • Solid demonstrated experience working in a tourism, marketing, sales or customer service role.
  • Experience managing, rostering and supporting staff and/or volunteers.  
  • Retail experience and cash handling experience, particularly in sales, banking and merchandising.
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills with proven commitment to community service.
  • Excellent personal presentation.
  • A high level of oral communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of staff / community
  • Demonstrated high degree of enthusiasm and commitment and ability to advocate and promote the city to visitors.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and the ability to work independently and unsupervised.

Desirable

  • Visitor Centre management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the local area, including attractions and services.
