Trainee Graphic Designer

  • Full Time - 35 hours per week.
  • 2-year Traineeship (or earlier, dependent on competency-based completion)
  • Completion Qualification: Certificate III in Design Fundamentals
  • Upon successful completion of the 2-year Traineeship there is an opportunity to complete an additional 12-month Internship.
  • Completion Qualification: Diploma of Graphic Design.

Becoming a Trainee with City of Newcastle (CN) will provide you with combined on-the-job learning with structured training.  You will learn an array of specialist practical skills and knowledge relevant to graphic design guided by industry professionals.

As a Graphic Designer Trainee, your position will focus on learning all aspects of graphic design including (but not limited to) the development of corporate materials for both internal and external use, visual design and presentation, as well as corporate branding principles.

To be successful in this job you will have:

  • Completion of Year 10 School Certificate, ROSA ‘Record of School Achievement’ or Year 12 Higher School Certificate, with satisfactory results including, as a minimum, a pass in General Mathematics and English.
  • Able to satisfy basic manual handling and physical health requirements of the position and a willingness to work in an indoor office and occasionally outdoor environment.
  • Literacy / numeracy skills commensurate with the position.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills,
  • Ability to work under supervision and as part of team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to develop sound knowledge and understanding of workplace health and safety.
  • A commitment to the prescribed training requirements and personal development.
  • Access to reliable transport for attendance at both work and external training providers.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, including experience/knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise whilst meeting agreed deadlines.
  • A demonstrated passion for Graphic Design and a commitment to developing within the industry.

Desirable

  • Completion of a pre-traineeship course or work experience relevant to the position.
  • Experience and exposure in a Graphic Design environment.
  • Experience as part of a functioning team.
  • Current NSW Class C or Provisional Drivers Licence.

Remuneration: $32,459 - $45,442 + 9.5% Superannuation per annum for a 35-hour week.
