Please note, this role has been advertised as a ‘Civil Labourer’, however in our organisation we title this role ‘Field Worker – Construction’ or ‘Field Worker – Maintenance’.

City of Newcastle (CN) is looking for a Civil Works Labourer to join the Civil Construction & Maintenance section.

As a Field Worker, you will contribute to the efficient and effective construction and maintenance of civil infrastructure and other municipal works. You will work on jobs around the Newcastle area that involve labouring duties for road pavement construction, concrete works, asphalt works, drainage works and vegetation control. You will be a team-player who prides yourself on a high quality of work to achieve the best results for our citizens.

The position requires a commitment to ongoing training and rotation within the Construction & Maintenance section to develop and maintain the required skills and competencies of the position.

You will work in a team-based environment and contribute in a manner to promote team spirit and maintain the health and safety of self, fellow workers and the public during the execution of works by ensuring that safe work practices are adopted and adhered to in accordance with Work Health and Safety Guidelines.

To join our team as our next Field Worker you will have:

• Previous labouring experience in civil infrastructure and municipal works.
• White card and high commitment to safety.
• Traffic Control accreditation (or willingness to obtain at your own cost within probation period).
• Class LR Driver’s Licence, or Class C Driver’s Licence and willingness to obtain LR Driver’s Licence within 12 months of commencement at own cost.
• Strong commitment to teamwork and initiative to work unsupervised at times.
• Ability to accept, interpret and action verbal and written instruction.
• Literacy and numeracy skills adequate to meet the requirements of the position.
