City of Newcastle (CN) is seeking an experienced Tyre Fitter to join our Depot Operations team, performing tyre fitting repairs over a wide range of light and heavy vehicles and plant. Depot Operations is a team of 30+ staff that enables other services within CN to operate at their service potential by providing and maintaining sustainable, fit-for purpose plant/fleet asset services and operational works depot management to the organisation.

As the successful candidate you’ll provide safe and cost-effective tyre selection, fitting and maintenance of CN’s fleet of vehicles and plant tyres to manufacturers specifications and RMS standards. You’ll endeavour to minimise down time for CN’s fleet and will work effectively as part of a team to optimise output.

In undertaking the role, you will  maintain the health and safety of fellow workers, customers and the general public during the operation of tyre fitting machinery and carrying out of repairs by ensuring safe work practices are adopted in accordance with WHS guidelines; conducting regular tyre inspections, field repair; and a commitment to continuous learning.

The essentials you’ll need:

  • Knowledge and experience as a tyre fitter including the operation of various machines associated with tyre replacement and maintenance
  • Ability to perform allocated duties with minimum supervision.
  • C Class Drivers Licence with the willingness and ability to gain HR class
  • Working knowledge of relevant WHS requirements
  • Skills in record keeping associated with work performed
  • Ability to work in a team environment and contribute to team objectives
  • Ability to work in a changing environment with focus on continuous improvement
  • Literacy and numeracy skills adequate to meet the requirements of the position
  • Willingness and ability to participate in a callout / overtime roster
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines

Other valuable skills you may have:

  • Experience in wheel alignment
  • HR Driver licence
  • Experience in stock control and maintaining adequate levels of equipment
