City of Newcastle (CN)is seeking for an experienced Technical Officer to join our Transport and Compliance Service Unit that provides strategic and operational focus for Transport Strategy, Transport Operations and Compliance. 

In this role you will be responsible for managing traffic count surveys, street name and directional signages, temporary road occupancy permit applications including road closure, work zone, temporary parking permit, shipping containers, driveway line marking and undertaking assessment of the applications in accordance with relevant traffic legislation. 

The essentials you’ll need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Construction, Surveying or a related field, or significant work experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of construction processes and Temporary Traffic Management Standard (As1742.3).
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in the interpretation and application of relevant Legislation, Australian Standards and Policies.
  • Strong computer literacy skills and experience using Microsoft applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to providing high levels of customer service, performance improvement and relationship management with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated by experience in consultation and conflict resolution with the capacity to liaise, develop and manage effective relationships.
  • Strong organisational skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Class C Driver's Licence.

Other valuable skills you may have:

  • Experience in traffic survey counts, guidance signage design and general traffic investigations.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Access, traffic data analysis and use of technical drawing software.
  • Possess Traffic Control Training Courses Accreditation (TCAWS) in accordance with Australian Standard 1742.3
