City of Newcastle (CN) is seeking a Sports Liaison Officer to join our Parks and Recreation team, supporting the wellbeing of the community through the provision of places and spaces for active and passive recreation and protection of the natural environment.

In this exciting and rewarding role you’ll draw upon your proven sports and recreation industry experience to proactively provide high level professional advice for the successful administration of sporting facilities and activities, ensuring a positive customer experience. This includes administration of sport and recreation projects, sporting events, and grants whilst supporting the Sports team in the delivery of quality sporting facilities and activities across the city.

Additional responsibilities include reporting on current trends and utilisation that will guide the strategic decision making for the provision of city-wide sporting facilities; constructively resolving conflicts and issues related to the coordination of sporting activities and events at CN’s sporting facilities; reviewing, implementing, and improving CN’s sports governance framework; and coordinating and administering CN’s Recreation Facility Grant Program.

The essentials you’ll need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in sport and recreation (or similar discipline) and/or equivalent relevant industry experience commensurate with the position.
  • Sound understanding of current trends within the industry that impact on the delivery of sport and recreation services and facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in the administration and coordination of Sporting Clubs and Associations and experience in building relationships and dealing with conflict situations in a constructive manner.
  • Ability to self-manage in a dynamic environment with a high workload involving competing priorities whilst maintaining a strong customer focus and achieving outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in the coordination of sporting events involving cross-functional teams.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills including the ability to complete grant submissions, reports, presentations and the facilitation of workshops.
  • Experience in the coordination of projects for community facility projects, taking into consideration timeframes, budget and impacts on community.
  • Be willing and able to work outside regular business hours including evening and weekends.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Ungerboek and/or experience with booking management systems.
  • Class C Drivers Licence.

Other valuable skills you may have:

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Local Government Act.
  • Understanding of financial systems and the ability to manage matters related to grant acquittal and invoicing.
