City of Newcastle (CN) is seeking an experienced Survey Technician to support our Assets & Projects team. Assets & Projects provide specialist asset strategy, planning and advice, and program and project delivery within the City. 

As the successful candidate you’ll draw upon your proven experience with survey instruments and surveying software, working closely with your Coordinator to perform minor surveys in a timely manner that meet briefs from designers, planners, constructors and consultants, in accordance with industry best practice, relevant legislation, and WHS and quality assurance requirements.

Additional responsibilities will include assisting Engineering Surveyors on major survey projects, maintaining the NSW Survey Control Information Management System (SCIMS) database, undertaking initial survey preparation, stock control, and staying abreast of technological and regulatory advances in a dynamic work environment.

The essentials you’ll need:

  • Diploma in Surveying (or current enrolment and near completion).
  • Experience using survey instruments including Robotic Total Stations, Data Recorders & Digital Levels.
  • Experience using surveying software and general software including 12D, Civilcad and Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and or work individually while performing Engineering or Cadastral surveys under supervision.
  • Experience in Engineering Surveying including boundary definition.
  • Ability to read & interpret Civil Engineering and cadastral plans.
  • Awareness of WHS requirements and Quality Assurance principles.
  • Developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in a team environment with emphasis on continuous improvement.
  • C Class Driver’s Licence and White Card.

Other valuable skills you may have:

  • RMS Certification in Traffic Control.
  • Experience using GPS equipment.
  • Experience maintaining Survey Equipment.
