City of Newcastle (CN) is seeking self-motivated and enthusiastic Blackbutt Reserve Workers to support the delivery of activities at Blackbutt Reserve including care for animals, park maintenance, and implementation of education programs.
Drawing on your proven experience in a similar role, you’ll fulfil a range of day-to-day operational tasks and activities including training and mentoring volunteers; promoting and prioritising a positive customer experience and Blackbutt Reserve as a premier tourist destination; ensuring the effective maintenance of wildlife exhibits; contributing to the development and delivery of engaging educational programs/presentations to a range of audiences including schools; and maintaining detailed records and reports.

The essentials you’ll need:
- Tertiary qualifications in captive native animals and/or relevant knowledge and experience in the care of captive native animals in a similar role in an outdoor setting and demonstrated capacity to deliver.
- Proven ability to plan and deliver environmental educational activities with native animals as well as direction and leadership to volunteers to deliver supporting presentations and activities.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills to support the provision of technical advice to internal and external customers.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment and demonstrated capability to work unsupervised using initiative and problem solving skills to overcome daily issues.
- Proven ability to maintain accurate written records to support the business.
- Experience in the safe operation of machinery and equipment, and proven ability to undertake general park maintenance activities to agreed service levels.
- Availability to work a flexible roster including weekend shifts, public holidays and after hours activities.
- Class C NSW driver licence (manual desirable).
- Working with Children Check.
Other valuable skills you may have:
- Chainsaw accreditation certificate.
- Ability to interpret landscape plans, standards and related documentation and supervise / undertake minor landscape works.
- Conservation and Land Management or Horticulture qualifications, and/or equivalent relevant knowledge, experience and a demonstrated capacity to deliver.
