City of Newcastle (CN) is seeking an experienced Parts Interpreter and Purchasing Officer to join our Depot Operations team within the mechanical workshop at the CN Depot in Waratah.
As the Parts Interpreter and Purchasing Officer you will be responsible for the pricing and ordering of parts required to carry out repairs and servicing on CN fleet, working within a team to ensure accurate parts are ordered to carry out the repairs. You will develop and manage a procedure to ensure that all parts are allocated to the work order and labelled for the shift workers to gain access to the parts easily and efficiently. Working with the store you will need to ensure adequate stock levels of parts and consumables, and regularly price check with numerous suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
The essentials you’ll need:
- High level of communication and customer service skills
- Ability to prioritise tasks under pressure
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of purchasing and stores procedures
- Ability to access information and parts catalogues on the Internet
- Ability to work in a team environment and assist team members when required
- Promote a positive image of Council when dealing with external suppliers
Other valuable skills you may have:
- Finance One training and ability to complete electronic requisitions
- Experience of electronic computer-based stock control system
- Proficiency in establishing preferred supplier agreements
- Trade certificate Motor Mechanic
