The essentials you’ll need:

City of Newcastle (CN) is seeking an experienced and motivated Workshop Leading Hand to join our evolving team based at our Waratah Works Depot in this permanent, full-time opportunity.

As our Leading Hand, you will provide guidance and act as the point of escalation for complex diagnostic issues for the team of mechanics on shift. Taking a 'hands on' approach, you will carry out daily tasks with the team ensuring compliance with national standards. This includes servicing and maintenance of all CN fleet, including garbage trucks, fixed and mobile plant, light fleet and NHVAS accredited fleet. You will also provide a high level of customer service support at the service reception desk and respond to requests in a timely and professional manner.

As the first point of contact to provide expert knowledge to our other mechanics, you will promote teamwork to optimise work output and complete relevant shift documentation including pre-start toolbox forms, shift handover forms and timesheets. Additionally, you will support Apprentices with 'on the job' training, mentoring, and completing training logbooks.

Being safety focused, you will maintain the health and safety of yourself, fellow works and the general public during execution of works by ensuring that safe work practices are implemented and adhered to. You'll also ensure quality assurance and sign off on all work performed, recognising the importance of delivering safe and functional equipment.
