City of Newcastle (CN) currently has a unique opportunity for an experienced and motivated Senior Licensing Officer to join our Media Engagement Economy & Corporate Affairs team until the end of July 2026. Through your work, you’ll have a behind the scenes pass to Newcastle's evolution as you shape our future as a liveable, inclusive city.

A day in the life…

Your role as Senior Licensing Officer will see you secure and authorise major events in Newcastle, with a range of responsibilities including:

  • Provide a concierge service to prospective event organisers to identify suitable locations to host future major events and showcase Newcastle as a major event City and tourism destination.
  • Manage the end-to-end event approval process, with a focus on high impact events including liaising with and negotiating mutually acceptable outcomes with event organisers, internal and external stakeholders, assessing applications against all relevant legislation and CN policies, and authorising the event under delegated authority.
  • Manage public notification and community consultation including mediation and negotiation with applicants and objectors to facilitate outcomes.
  • Carry out site inspections to ensure compliance with conditions of approval and to assess damage to CN assets following events.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations relating to strategic event matters.
  • Coordinate the Interagency Event Coordination Group consisting of representatives from CN, emergency services and government agencies to consult and provide feedback on high impact events to ensure public safety can be maintained.
  • Create and maintain full and accurate records which document activities and decision in accordance with CN's policies and procedures.

Remuneration: $101,092.35 + 17.5% annual leave loading yearly payment + 12% Superannuation per annum for a 35-hour week
