ABOUT YOU

The ideal candidate will demonstrate effective time management skills, adaptability to changing priorities, and the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders while delivering high-quality work. To be successful you will need:

  • Broad experience in heavy plant operation for civil construction and/or maintenance.
  • Valid Class HC Drivers License (minimum, MC desirable)
  • Construction Induction (White) Card.
  • Traffic Controller qualifications and ability to implement Traffic Control Plans.
  • Strong communication skills and basic proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Physical fitness to meet the role's demands and a commitment to workplace health and safety.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Heavy Plant Operator will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of heavy machinery and equipment to support the construction and maintenance of roads and infrastructure within the Shire. The role requires a high level of competency in plant operation, adherence to safety standards, and effective communication with team members and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include loading materials, directing traffic at work sites, performing routine maintenance on equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The successful candidate will also assist in various tasks across the department as required.

This full time position is classified at Band 1, Level 4 (up to $37.16/hr) under council's salary system in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award, working a nine-day fortnight, 38 hours per week. 

Candidates must be available to camp on construction and maintenance work sites during the week when required, work overtime and extended hours in accordance with the works program, including weekends and call outs for emergency response.
