About the team
Located in the Environment, Heritage, and Resilience Department the Natural Areas Conservation (NAC) team manages 13,784 hectares of an expanding natural areas estate in approximately 900 separate reserves across the Gold Coast including the Gold Coast Regional Botanic Garden.
Our purpose is to conserve and enhance the City’s natural areas and cultural values for community and future generations.
About these roles
We currently have 2 permanent fulltime Conservation Ranger opportunities in our team. As a Conservation Ranger you will implement plans and programs that support the day-to-day management of the City’s conservation estate and associated built and green assets.
These positions support the Team Leader through the provision of technical knowledge, on-ground experience, stakeholder engagement and management of contractors and service providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Project manage & implement minor projects, and programs with a focus on continuous business and customer service improvement and compliance.
- Proactively manage Councillor and community requests and action timely responses, ensuring Councillors and relevant staff are kept up to date on the status.
- Provide technical support to team members and the public, particularly regarding problems or complaints from the public.
- Oversee the condition scoring of the City’s fire management trails, boundary security assets (gates and fences) and park signage.
- Help manage vegetation management contracts, in particular the creation and maintenance of bushfire interface maintenance zones, dead, dying, and dangerous trees and other vegetation buffers.
- Help manage operational and capital budgets and meet/comply with corporate governance and reporting timeframes and procedures.
- Help maintain and enhance NAC’s WHS management system and ensure that staff work safely in remote areas.
We’re looking for people who have:
- have experience in conservation and land management, or similar environmental field.
- be able to provide on-ground advice for a diverse range of issues relating to Natural Area management related issues.
- have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with particular emphasis in the areas of stakeholder engagement, customer engagement and management of contractors and service providers.
- experience in vegetation management and assessment,
- experience in fire or recreational trail assessment, asset management and maintenance (gates and fences), drainage issues and pest animal and plants issues
