About the team

We're entering a new chapter for the Chief Technology Office at the City of Gold Coast as we deliver bold, future-focussed solutions. With the launch of our IT Operating Model, as well as bringing critical IT services in-house, we are transforming the way we deliver technology services — making them faster, more responsive and more aligned with the needs of our organisation and customers.

As part of this transformation, we're hiring multiple new positions. These roles are key to shaping a vibrant and forward-thinking Chief Technology Office, one that adds real value, delivers better outcomes, and works in smarter, more agile ways.

This is a rare opportunity to do meaningful specialist work — building a team's capability from the ground up in an area that genuinely matters to how the organisation functions. You'll have real scope to shape practice, design frameworks, and leave a lasting mark on how information and data are managed here.

About the role

We're looking for a specialist who knows data and information management from the inside out — and can bring others along on that journey. As Information & Data Uplift Lead, you'll build genuine capability within our Information & Data team, equipping staff with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to own and implement data governance and management as core parts of their roles.

This isn't a generalist change role. It's a specialist position for someone who combines deep expertise in information and data governance with the ability to translate that expertise into practical skills for others.

What You'll Do

You'll lead a structured capability uplift program for our Information & Data team, designing and delivering targeted learning and development activities that build real competency in data governance, information management, quality standards, and working with both structured and unstructured data.

Working hands-on with team members and leaders, you'll identify capability gaps, redesign workflows and processes to embed sound data management practices, and create practical frameworks and templates that make good governance the path of least resistance. You'll maintain a clear, prioritized program of work that tracks progress and adapts as organisational needs evolve.

Beyond the team, you'll partner with business units across the organisation to integrate data practices into reporting, auditing, and decision-making — and help position the Information & Data team as the trusted centre of expertise for governance and data management.

We’re looking for people who have:

You have substantial, hands-on experience in information management and data governance — you've worked in this space, not just led change around it. You understand data quality frameworks, governance structures, and the practical challenges of managing both structured and unstructured data in complex organisations.

Equally important, you're a skilled capability builder. You know how to assess where a team is, design a learning pathway that builds real competency, and coach people through new ways of working. You're patient, practical, and able to make technical concepts accessible without dumbing them down.

You'll also be comfortable engaging stakeholders, influencing without authority, and championing the value of well-governed data at all levels of the organisation.

You will also bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Management, Data Governance, Library Science, Information Systems, Business or equivalent leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading capability uplift or transformation within information and/or data management functions
  • Strong knowledge of information and data management principles, governance frameworks and industry standards (e.g. DAMA, ISO 8000, ISO 15489)
  • Proven ability to design and implement new ways of working that integrate data management into existing operations
  • Strong planning and prioritisation skills, with experience sequencing change initiatives aligned to strategic objectives
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and change leadership skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience coordinating and delivering targeted training and development initiatives
  • Experience working within public sector information and data governance environments
