About the team
The Engineering, Design and Standards Branch is responsible for infrastructure engineering, design, survey, specifications, asset standards, electrical infrastructure and contributed assets across all customer and community facing infrastructure classes.
About the role
We are seeking a Water and Waste Compliance Engineer to provide specialist technical expertise in the assessment, approval, and compliance of water, recycled water, and wastewater infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assess development applications and apply compliance conditions for water, recycled water, and wastewater services
- Manage non-standard water and sewer connections, including live works, shutdowns, and bypass arrangements
- Review and approve construction methodologies, QA documentation, commissioning, and As-Constructed data
- Conduct site inspections and resolve design or construction conflicts to ensure compliance with approvals and standards
- Provide technical input into standards, products, and best-practice outcomes, working collaboratively across teams
We’re looking for people who have:
- Bachelor’s degree of Civil or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent knowledge- desirable
- Substantial knowledge and/or experience in the design and construction of all facets of water and sewer assets
- Substantial knowledge of the SEQ D&C Code and the requirements within
- Knowledge and understanding of legislation and by-laws including: Workplace Health and Safety Act and relevant Code of Practice, Environmental Protection Act, Water Act 2000
- Knowledge and understanding of the development planning and approval process, the conditions and their application
- Knowledge and experience using quality management systems, including 9001, 14001, HACCP and 4801.
- Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal, negotiation, oral and written communication skills including an ability to articulate complex issues in a changing environment.
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, policies and procedures
- Ability to work productively in a team environment and to foster good relationships with other team members and all levels of management
- Ability to engage with all users of water, recycled water and sewer networks in a positive manner
- High level of technical expertise, with strong influencing, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in an office environment, on a construction site and in a customer’s premises.
- C Class Drivers Licence Unrestricted
- General Construction Induction White Card- desirable
