About the team
The Traffic Engineering team is a fun, dynamic team within the Transport Operations Business Unit. Our primary focus is to ensure that the City of Gold Coast (City) has a safe and efficient transport system that is responsive to the community’s needs and supports the achievement of economic, environmental and social objectives.
We work under the strategic intent of the City of Gold Coast’s Corporate Plan and implement the Gold Coast City Transport Strategy 2031. This framework seeks to ensure the city has a safe and efficient transport system which is responsive to the needs of the community and supports the achievement of economic, environmental and social objectives.
We also work closely with many delivery partners, including the City’s development and transport planning teams and the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads to plan and manage the transport system as 'one network'.
About the role
You will provide professional traffic engineering advice and make your mark on the City’s transport infrastructure. Working with the Coordinator Traffic Engineering and Senior Traffic Engineering Officers, you will engineer operational and innovative solutions to ensure the City’s transport system is safe, efficient and sustainable. You will be involved in road infrastructure improvements, traffic system upgrades, active transport, public transport and road safety infrastructure projects.
You will be required to respond to traffic and parking enquiries, investigate and solve traffic engineering issues, undertake traffic and parking studies, investigate cyclist and pedestrian safety issues and provide advice on technical issues. Specific responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Identify solutions to complex traffic management, road safety, parking, pedestrian, cyclist and public transport issues.
- Conduct autonomous field investigations.
- Review infrastructure design drawings to ensure compliance with relevant standards and Council policies.
- Develop and review signage and line marking plans.
- Undertake road safety audits, crash investigations and speed limit reviews.
- Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders including residents, Councillors and State Government agencies.
- Provide input into the development of internal policies and procedures.
- Respond to customer and Councillor requests utilising Council’s customer request management software.
- Prepare reports and correspondence in relation to transport and traffic engineering matters, including Council Committee Agenda Items.
We’re looking for people who have:
- Bachelor Degree of Civil Engineering, or demonstrated equivalent experience and knowledge working in the traffic and transport sector.
- Drivers licence class “C” is unrestricted so that you can drive to site.
- WHS Licence General Construction White Card.
- A can-do attitude and have a passion for health and safety.
- Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to solve complex problems and confidence to provide sound advice, options and recommendations to influence positive outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to form good working relationships with key stakeholders and service providers both internal and external.
