- Position Brief - Network Operations Technical Officer
About the team
The Utilities Network Operations team sits within Infrastructure Operations and plays a critical role in keeping the Gold Coast’s water, sewer and recycled water networks running safely and reliably. It is a practical, field-connected team that works closely with internal stakeholders, contractors and service providers to plan, coordinate and deliver network works across both planned programs and reactive operational needs. In this role you will report to the Supervisor, Network Operations, and collaborate regularly with field crews and other parts of the organisation to ensure work is prioritised, scheduled and delivered safely and efficiently. The team operates within a structured risk management framework that considers impacts to People, Environment, Assets and Reputation (PEAR), ensuring operational decisions protect public safety, environmental outcomes, critical infrastructure, and community confidence.
About the role
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being the technical “glue” between planning and field delivery. You will provide day-to-day technical support and guidance to operational crews, help coordinate planned and unplanned works, support the management of interruptions and customer impacts, and contribute to safe, high-quality outcomes for the community.
You will be required to participate in a 24/7 on call roster providing business critical updates. You will also support continuous improvement by helping refine work practices, documentation and the way network operations are delivered, while remaining responsive when priorities shift due to operational events. You Will apply a holistic risk-based approach when coordinating works and responding to operational events, assessing potential impacts across People, Environment, Assets and Reputation to support informed, defensible, and balanced decision-making.
We’re looking for people who have
Strong experience in utility network operations, particularly within water, sewer and recycled water environments, and be confident providing practical technical advice that supports safe field execution. You will have a genuine safety-first mindset, communicate clearly with a range of stakeholders, and be organised enough to help coordinate work, manage competing priorities and keep service delivery moving. You will also bring a customer-focused approach, understanding that network operations directly affect residents, businesses and the broader community.
Mandatory qualifications and requirements: You will hold an unrestricted C Class Driver Licence and a White Card, and you will be willing and able to meet the role’s operational and compliance requirements, including confined space entry, first aid including CPR, and relevant electrical authorisations where required. This role is a position of trust and is classified as a SOCI Critical Worker, so additional screening and eligibility requirements apply. A Certificate IV in Water Industry Operations is desirable, or you can demonstrate equivalent relevant experience in utility network operations.
