About the team
Open Space Maintenance’s role is to provide maintenance services to ensure that parks and recreational facilities are maintained to a high standard and meet agreed levels of service with the Asset Custodians via Partnering Agreements. These maintenance operations are achieved through Area Coordinators, including the planning and implementation of maintenance programs for streetscapes, parklands, sporting fields, and roadsides. We also provide professional advice to various customers on the construction and maintenance of park infrastructure, open space areas and roadsides.
About the role
In this role you will be responsible for working in a proactive team assisting with the mowing of 221 Sports fields across 2 million square metres (200Ha) throughout the city.
All playing surfaces are mown and maintained to an extremely high level providing an exceptional level of service to our Gold Coast sporting Clubs. This role will also undertake a wide range of general horticulture activities, including maintenance and improvements of parks, landscaped and recreational areas within the City’s open space regions.
What you will be responsible for:
- Working in a proactive team assisting with the mowing of 221 Sports fields across 2 million square metres (200Ha) throughout the city
- Undertaking a wide range of horticultural activities including parks inspections, maintenance and construction, landscaping and integrated pest management programs
- Managing turf irrigation and drainage systems
- Maintaining plant and equipment
- Participating in identified training programs to increase skills and knowledge, contributing to the continual improvement of the section
The successful applicants will be appointed at the appropriate level based on qualifications, skills and experience between Level 2 and Level 7 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream B) Award - Operational.
We’re looking for people who have:
- Certificate III in Horticulture or related discipline is highly regarded
- MR Driver’s Licence or higher (Mandatory)
- General Construction Induction Card (White) (Mandatory)
- Ability to use an iPad
- Experience driving tractors
- Experience operating wide area mowers and the use of mowing attachments
- A basic understanding of Greenkeeping, Sports field Renovations and general Sports field maintenance
- An understanding of Irrigation design and operations
- A high level of customer service and communication skills and the ability to prioritise and multitask in a dynamic environment
