About the team
Located in the Infrastructure Gold Coast Department, the Engineering, Design and Standards Branch is responsible for infrastructure engineering, design, survey, specifications, asset standards, electrical infrastructure and contributed assets across all customer and community facing infrastructure classes.
About the role
We are seeking to appoint a Materials Testing Officer to undertake investigations of Council’s structures, roadways, footpaths, waterways, natural environment, and stormwater drainage systems.
You will be required to undertake a range of tasks related to construction materials testing in accordance with the scope of the laboratory’s NATA accreditation, as well as provide other supporting activities.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide field investigation, sampling and laboratory materials testing services (concrete, aggregates, soils, road pavement and surfaces, and pedestrian surfaces)
- Record field data and process field and laboratory test data using relevant business software (Microsoft Office suite, SAP) and technical software as required (e.g. ArcGIS, QESTLab)
- Use and maintain Materials Testing Laboratory field and laboratory equipment including but not limited to geotechnical drilling and sampling hardware, concrete coring equipment, surface moisture-density gauge, compression testing machine, pendulum friction tester, floor friction tester and handheld GPS
- Undertake site set-up and investigation of both open space and road pavement sites including but not limited to test pitting (both manual hand tools and power assisted), geotechnical drilling and testing (SPT, DPP, DCP), borehole logging, field testing and bulk sampling
- Develop and maintain open and transparent working relationships between internal and external customers
We’re looking for people who have:
- Cert III Construction Material Testing or equivalent and relevant experience
- Current C Class unrestricted Driver Licence
- Ability to consult with a range of people and display sound written, interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Can work within a team, undertake materials testing activities, set realistic goals and work priorities to ensure deadlines and commitments are met
- The ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of policies, procedures, systems and legislation relevant to Materials Testing
