We're entering a new chapter for the Chief Technology Office at the City of Gold Coast as we deliver bold, future-focused solutions. With the launch of our IT Operating Model and the transition of critical IT services in-house, we are transforming the way we deliver technology, making it faster, more responsive, and more aligned with the needs of our organisation and customers.

As part of this transformation, we're growing our network engineering capability and have two exciting Senior Network Engineer opportunities available. About the role 

This Senior Network Engineering role is responsible for delivering complex network infrastructure projects and providing ongoing support for the City's enterprise network environment.

You will take ownership of network design, implementation, commissioning, optimisation, and operational support across a diverse range of City facilities. This hands-on role combines project delivery with operational excellence and offers the opportunity to work across a broad range of technologies and environments.

Participation in an on-call roster is required for the position.

What you'll be doing

  • Designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise network solutions
  • Managing routing, switching, firewall, and network security technologies
  • Delivering network infrastructure projects from design through to implementation
  • Monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimising network performance
  • Supporting cloud networking and hybrid connectivity solutions
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across technology and business teams
  • Producing technical documentation, designs, and diagrams
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence
  • Participating in after-hours support and incident response when required

What we're looking for

  • Extensive experience in enterprise network engineering within large and complex environments
  • Strong understanding of network architecture, security principles, and best practices
  • Expert proficiency in routing protocols including OSPF and BGP
  • Experience with enterprise firewall technologies, including Cisco and Check Point
  • Experience with Cisco DNA Centre (DNAC) and Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)
  • Cloud networking experience, particularly within Microsoft Azure environments
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences
  • Experience producing technical designs and documentation using tools such as Microsoft Visio
  • A valid driver's licence and willingness to travel throughout the Gold Coast region

Qualifications

  • CCNA, JNCIA, or equivalent industry certification (desirable)
