About the team
You’ll join the Waste and Resource Recovery team within Environment, Heritage and Resilience. We are a collaborative and fast-paced business unit delivering essential services across the City.
Our team supports a wide range of operations including household and commercial waste collection, material recovery facilities, bulky waste services, and the supply of waste equipment. We are currently undergoing a significant transformation as we transition towards a resource recovery focused industry and uplift our operational capability.
About the role
In this role, you will provide responsive financial and commercial support to waste collection services, helping to manage contracts and deliver strong financial outcomes across a diverse portfolio of services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading monthly contractor payments, including validation, reconciliation of complex data, and application of contract terms
- Delivering financial and commercial analysis to resolve enquiries, discrepancies and support service improvements
- Supporting compliance, audit and risk activities
- Managing month-end processes, including reporting, variance analysis and KPI insights
- Contributing to budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling
- Preparing business cases, reports and ad hoc analysis to support decision-making
- Identifying opportunities to improve systems, processes and data integrity
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support contract performance and service delivery outcomes
This role plays an important part in supporting the City’s waste strategy and delivering sustainable outcomes aligned to long-term planning.
What you'll bring:
- Demonstrated experience in financial and commercial analysis, ideally within a contract or service delivery environment
- Strong analytical capability, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide meaningful insights
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling
- Sound understanding of compliance, audit and risk frameworks
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders
- A proactive approach to process improvement and enhancing data integrity
- Relevant qualifications in Commerce (Accounting), Business or equivalent experience, along with a current C Class driver licence
