About the role 

The Spatial Analyst Lead is responsible for leading the delivery of GIS services, spatial strategy, and enterprise spatial solutions across Council’s ArcGIS environment. This role provides technical leadership, governance, and strategic direction to ensure the effective use of spatial data, systems, and platforms across the organisation.

Leading a team of spatial professionals, the position works closely with internal stakeholders and the CTO GIS Corporate team to align GIS capabilities with business needs and organisational priorities. The role plays a critical part in driving innovation, improving processes, and establishing standards that support scalable, efficient, and high-quality GIS service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the delivery of GIS services, projects, and operational support across the organisation.
  • Provide strategic direction and technical leadership for Council’s GIS environment, including ArcGIS platforms, spatial data, and enterprise applications.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand operational requirements and translate them into scalable, fit-for-purpose GIS solutions.
  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of enterprise GIS solutions, including web applications, integrations, dashboards, and automation workflows.
  • Collaborate with the CTO GIS Corporate team to ensure alignment between front-end GIS service delivery and back-end infrastructure, systems, and enterprise architecture.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in GIS processes, tools, standards, and service delivery models.
  • Oversee spatial data lifecycle management, including data capture, integration, quality assurance, storage, governance, and accessibility.
  • Mentor and support a high-performing spatial team, fostering collaboration, capability development, and customer-focused outcomes.

About you

We’re looking for a collaborative and technically capable GIS professional with strong leadership experience and a passion for delivering innovative spatial solutions.

You will bring:

  • A bachelor's degree in Spatial Science, Surveying, Geospatial Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience analysing and producing high-quality spatial information using ESRI GIS products and enterprise GIS environments.
  • Strong experience designing and delivering enterprise GIS solutions, integrations, and spatial applications.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and deliver outcomes in complex organisational environments.
  • Experience working within emergency management, bushfire, flood, environmental, utilities, or similar operational contexts will be highly regarded.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into practical spatial solutions.
  • Experience with automation, scripting, web GIS technologies, and spatial data governance is desirable.
