About the team:

Sitting in the Planning Regulation and Services Gold Coast department, the Public Safety Compliance business unit is responsible for managing protective security across all Council facilities, regulatory operations across a diverse range of the City’s Local Laws.

Our Protective Services team delivers effective and efficient asset protection, incident management, alarm monitoring and staff safety for the City of Gold Coast.

About the roles: 

We currently have Protective Services Officer Permanent and Casual opportunities available across our Waste and Recycling Centres and Libraries on the Gold Coast.

Protective Services Officers assigned to Waste and Recycling Centres will work across multiple locations, including but limited to Merrimac, Helensvale and Currumbin. These roles operate on 10-hour shifts within a 6-week rotating roster. The position is responsible for maintaining site security and regulating access to Council waste facilities. Key duties include providing protective security services, managing site entry, engaging with customers upon arrival, ensuring compliance with entry requirements, and overseeing access through customer payment processes.

Library Protective Services Officers work primarily daytime shifts between Monday and Saturday, with occasional afternoon and Sunday shifts. This role offers flexibility through a rotating roster across various library locations on the Gold Coast. Responsibilities include promoting a harmonious environment for visitors to the city libraries, responding to emergency duress alarms, managing security incidents, liaising with internal and external stakeholders and providing the appropriate advice on security-related matters. 

As there will be some crossover between the two positions, flexibility is encouraged.

We’re looking for people who have: 

  • Minimum 2 years' service in an Emergency Services background in State/Federal Protective Services, Police, QFES or Australian Defence Force (administration roles not deemed suitable).
  • Ability to communicate clear explanations regarding (function/discipline) processes and procedures in written and verbal form.
  • A sound level of interpersonal and negotiation skills includes giving clear instructions and having them followed.
  • Delivers high-quality service to customers (internal/external) and understands and reacts responsively to customer expectations.
  • Ability to work productively in a team environment and foster good relationships with team members, clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate and interact courteously and efficiently with internal and external customers to ensure a positive image of the Council is portrayed.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of CCTV monitoring platforms.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of Microsoft applications, word, outlook, excel, and the ability to learn new software applications as required.
  • You will hold a current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate.
  • Requirement to work on a rotating roster that includes weekends.
  • Able to successfully obtain a National Police Check.
