About the team

The Sustainability, Heritage and Compliance branch is dedicated to protecting and celebrating the Gold Coast's unique natural, cultural and built heritage. Working collaboratively across the organisation and with the community, the team develops initiatives that preserve the stories, places and assets that help shape the City's identity for future generations. Based within the Environment, Heritage and Resilience department, you'll play a key role in delivering meaningful conservation outcomes across the City.

 

About the role 

We're seeking an experienced and passionate Heritage Conservation Lead to champion the City's heritage conservation program and provide strategic leadership across a broad portfolio of heritage initiatives.

 

In this influential leadership role, you'll oversee the City's heritage conservation work stream, manage a portfolio of heritage assets, lead a small team, and provide specialist advice that helps preserve and celebrate the Gold Coast's heritage values. You'll work across major City projects, drive community engagement initiatives, and build strong partnerships with stakeholders to support positive conservation outcomes.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Leading the City's heritage conservation services and providing expert technical advice on heritage matters.
  • Managing heritage assets, including conservation management planning, maintenance and preservation activities.
  • Driving heritage education, engagement and incentive programs that encourage community participation.
  • Developing heritage conservation processes, procedures and best-practice frameworks.
  • Promoting adaptive reuse opportunities and interpretive storytelling that celebrates the City's heritage.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with government agencies, community organisations, heritage groups and internal stakeholders.
  • Managing and developing a team of three heritage professionals.

 

We’re looking for people who have: 

You are a strategic and collaborative heritage professional with strong leadership capabilities and a passion for conserving and promoting cultural heritage.

 

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

 

  • A degree in heritage conservation, architecture or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in heritage conservation principles, practices and legislative frameworks.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building abilities.
  • Experience delivering projects, programs and community initiatives in complex environments.
  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to influence, educate and provide specialist advice to diverse audiences.
  • A proactive and innovative approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
