Job No: COG1960
Location: Bundall

  • Full Time Fixed Term (2x positions available until 30/06/2027) | 9-day fortnight | 36 hours per week
  • Salary: From $111,401 - $117,924 per annum plus Superannuation
  • Position Brief - Solution Designer

About the role

We are excited to offer an opportunity for an innovative and delivery-focused Solution Designer to join the City of Gold Coast.

Reporting to the Coordinator Solution Architecture, you will provide expert advice on solution design best practice and lead technical designs that align with reference solutions, enterprise architecture principles and the City’s enterprise standards. You will develop clear, implementable designs and system specifications that support the successful delivery, transition and operation of ICT solutions across the organisation.

Depending on organisational priorities, you may be aligned to one of several activity streams. This could include supporting ICT design across municipal infrastructure projects, leading cross-platform initiatives under the IT Operating Model, or contributing to complex ICT portfolio initiatives that require strong governance, technical alignment and operational readiness. Across each stream, your focus will be on ensuring solutions are well defined, practical, compliant, and sustainable in service.

You will work closely with project teams, technical specialists, delivery partners, vendors and stakeholders across the Chief Technology Office and the broader City. You will coordinate technical input, manage design dependencies, support transition to operations, and help uplift consistent technical solution architecture patterns and practices that improve the way technology is delivered across the organisation.

This is a highly collaborative role suited to someone who can translate business needs into clear technical outcomes, balance design quality with delivery realities, and bring people together to solve complex problems. Your contribution will help ensure technology solutions are fit-for-purpose, aligned to enterprise standards, and capable of supporting services that enhance the Gold Coast way of life.

We’re looking for people who have:

Most importantly, you will bring experience in a similar Solution Designer or Solution Architect role, with the ability to turn business needs into clear, practical and implementable technology designs. You will be confident working across technical teams, project teams, vendors and business stakeholders to shape solutions that are aligned to enterprise architecture, City standards and operational requirements.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience developing solution designs, system specifications and implementation-ready design artefacts that align with enterprise architecture principles, reference solutions, technical patterns and organisational standards.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A practical delivery mindset, with the ability to balance design quality, compliance, risk, operational readiness and delivery realities.
  • The ability to coordinate technical input across multiple teams, manage dependencies, support transition to operations, and contribute to reliable and consistent solution delivery.
  • Experience working across one or more delivery environments, such as municipal infrastructure projects, cross-platform service initiatives, ICT portfolio delivery, system migrations, operational uplift or technology-enabled business improvement.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with a high level of autonomy while contributing positively to cross-functional teams.
  • An understanding of ICT risk, service transition, operational support considerations, vendor engagement and the importance of designing solutions that are sustainable beyond project delivery.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with an interest in uplifting technical patterns, improving solution design practices, and helping the City deliver fit-for-purpose technology outcomes for the community.

Ideally, you will also hold a Bachelor Degree in Information Technology, Project Management or a related discipline, or bring equivalent knowledge and relevant experience.

If you have strong solution design capability and can bring people together to deliver practical, standards-aligned technology outcomes, we’d like to hear from you.
