About the team

We are the Asset Custodian for the City’s stormwater assets totalling over $8.2 billion worth of assets including, but not limited to over 2,800 kilometres of drainage pipe, approximately 300 kilometres of surface drains, 500+ water sensitive urban design (WSUD) assets and 1,200+ gross pollutant traps (GPT’s).

Our stormwater team has substantial experience planning and delivering renewals from minor localised drainage to major projects including large culvert crossings, bridges, and significant stormwater network upgrades.  Working in this team will provide you mentorship opportunities to improve technical knowledge, learn from specialists in other disciples and grow as an Engineer.

We coordinate and deliver strategic and tactical asset management planning, asset information and data management and contributed asset review and acceptance functions for the Department.

About the role 

We are seeking an experienced Senior Stormwater / Civil Engineer who will contribute their expertise and operate with autonomy and limited direction from management.  You will provide technical advice and assistance to operations and maintenance teams, act as an Asset Custodian Representative in relation to the City's stormwater assets in forward planning investigations.

We’re looking for people who have: 

  • Advanced interpersonal skills and a strong customer focus
  • Highly developed analytical, problem solving, negotiation and investigative skills to provide sound advice, options and recommendations to influence project outcomes in particular communicating water engineering findings and outcomes. This will involve preparing technical file notes / briefing notes and even Council Committee reports, attending meetings to represent the stormwater networks interests and assist where necessary on more complex matters. You will also manage, coordinate and help to drive the stormwater network component of the City’s Local Government Infrastructure Plan (LGIP)
  • A Bachelors Degree Engineering - Civil and / or relevant equivalent experience in stormwater design
  • Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) accreditation
  • Extensive experience in stormwater design / surface water engineering ideally with some Local Government experience, utilising guidelines: the City’s Land Development Guidelines, QUDM, Austroads, TMR specifications, ARR19
  • Experience in software, ArcGIS, TUFLOW, MUSIC, AutoCAD, 12d, URBS (desired but not essential)
  • A commitment to undertake continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Current Australian C Class unrestricted Driver Licence
