About the role:
As an Environmental Health Officer, you will play a key role in protecting and promoting public and environmental health across Whyalla.
You will be accountable for ensuring the proper standards of public and environmental health are maintained throughout our community. This is undertaken by monitoring, investigation, and promoting public and environmental health issues with legislative action where necessary.
Reporting to the Regulatory Services Coordinator, you will deliver a diverse range of regulatory, compliance and education-based functions to ensure legislative requirements are met and community health standards are maintained.
Duties will include:
- Conducting inspections of food premises, public swimming pools, and personal services to ensure compliance with legislation.
- Investigating public nuisance reports, food safety complaints, and notifiable diseases in collaboration with SA Health.
- Delivering education and awareness programs to the community on public and environmental health issues.
- Contributing to environmental health planning, policy development, and interagency initiatives across the region.
About you:
We are looking for an individual who has the following:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health or equivalent (Qualifications approved by the South Australian Health Commission for appointment for Environmental Health Officer)
- Eligibility for membership to Environmental Health Australia
- C Class Drivers Licence
- National Police Check (or ability to obtain prior to commencement)
- Non-prohibited South Australian Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain prior to commencement)
Students who are nearing completion of a tertiary qualification in Environmental Health or an equivalent discipline are strongly encouraged to apply.

The salary applicable for this role is in accordance with the South Australian Municipal Salaried Officers' Award and Council’s current Enterprise Agreement, paid at Level 5 commencing at $103,143.
