A unique opportunity has opened for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the engineering function at our brand-new bakery scheduled to launch in 2025 in Nambeelup, WA (12 km from Mandurah and 60km South of Peth).

About the Role:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Engineering Manager will play a key part in ensuring the success of our new site, with a primary focus on equipment performance, engineering excellence, and effective asset management.

From commissioning and start-up through to ongoing operations, you will provide strategic leadership and hands-on direction to a multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance team, ensuring all engineering activities are aligned with the company’s vision and objectives.

In this pivotal role, you will lead the transition from setup to full-scale operations, prioritising safety, efficiency, and the productivity of the plant’s engineering assets.

Key responsibilities:

  • Engineering Leadership:
    • Oversee the successful commissioning of new equipment and systems, ensuring their seamless integration into daily operations.
    • Maintain facility and equipment at optimal readiness to meet production requirements while upholding safety, product quality, and compliance standards.
    • Implement and refine preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and increase plant efficiency.
    • Evaluate new equipment and innovations, keeping ARYZTA at the forefront of bakery technology.
    • Manage engineering budgets, track expenses, and provide regular progress updates to senior management.
  • Team & Relationship Management:
    • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team, promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
    • Establish effective working relationships and clear communication channels within your team and with senior management.
    • Manage contractor and external partner performance, including oversight of inductions, compliance, and documentation.
  • Procedural & Operational Excellence:
    • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and food safety standards in all engineering activities.
    • Maintain accurate engineering records and reporting systems, including budget forecasts, engineering inventory and continuous improvement plans.
    • Continuously review and refine engineering systems and procedures, driving ongoing improvements.

The successful candidate will bring:

  • 5 years+ experience in a complex engineering environment, ideally with a large-scale baking/food or FMCG manufacturing company.
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering/maintenance management.
  • Engineering qualifications or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to drive people development and team’s engagement.
  • Commercial acumen and experience in negotiating with external partners/vendors.
  • Effective prioritization and execution in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility with working schedules and availability for afterhours work when required.
