The Garvan Institute is one of Australia’s leading medical research institutions with approximately 500 scientists, students and support staff working in research programs in Cancer, Diabetes & Obesity, Immunology & Inflammation, Osteoporosis, and Neuroscience. The Kinghorn Cancer centre (TKCC) was inaugurated in 2012 as a result of a $100M joint venture between the Garvan and St Vincent’s hospital; it is located adjacent to the Garvan Institute.
The IT Department operates the telecommunications facilities of the Garvan Institute and the Kinghorn Cancer Centre (TKCC). The IT function covers applications, desktop, network and server development; web development, internet services and operations management in addition to providing support for all of these functions. Our infrastructure includes PC and Mac desktops, Sun, Windows and Linux servers, VMware, Cisco network equipment, optical fibre connection to the Internet and including the video-conference facilities. IT is also responsible for a $1M high performance computer facility.
We are now seeking an experienced and competent Systems engineer to join our team of experts in providing IT services to all users across the Garvan and The Kinghorn Cancer Centre (TKCC).
The key responsibilities of this role may include:
- Managing Exchange and Active Directory services (including maintenance and backup operations)
- VMware ESX deployment and administration
- Providing Level 2 and 3 support
- Ensure compliance to backup, disaster recovery policies, security, antivirus, and intrusion protection policies.
- Ensuring constant network and server availability. This includes the internal and hosted infrastructure and internet connectivity.
- Investigate, propose and implement technology solutions to specific business requirements.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following key skills and attributes:
- A driven and innovative thinker
- A resourceful and competent problem solver
- Experience in desktop and laptop (MAC and PC) problem diagnosis and resolution
- Experience managing existing Windows servers and Active Directory
- Competence managing the Exchange mail server and provide network support
- Experienced providing software support i.e Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office
- VMware experience required, Linux experience will be well regarded.
The remuneration package is commensurate upon experience and is offered with additional salary packaging benefits.
