This is an opportunity for your career to make a difference! We are seeking a Policy and Advocacy Advisor who will support the development and implementation of a program of strategic engagement with government and other stakeholders to support the achievement of the institute’s goals.
The Opportunity:
The Policy and Advocacy Advisor will work directly with TGI’s researchers and support the I&E team’s government and stakeholder engagement to improve health outcomes of communities experiencing marginalisation in both high and low resource contexts.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Contribute to the implementation of an advocacy and policy engagement strategy, aligned with strategic research priorities and I&E team objectives
Maintain an awareness of developments in agreed health policy focus areas in Australia, in order to advise colleagues on advocacy and engagement opportunities and challenges
Respond to government consultations and calls for evidence, and organise policy briefings, roundtables and other events
Support a focus on impact within TGI Australia from the earliest stages of research, by increasing awareness and understanding of the policy environment, and supporting researchers to develop meaningful ‘pathways to impact’
Facilitate engagement between researchers and local, regional, national and international policymakers including representatives of healthcare providers, multilaterals, and funders
Engage with civil society groups, NGOs, Australia/Pacific-based advocacy networks and community-based organisations, to build collaborations and partnerships, amplify advocacy initiatives and centre the voices of people with lived experience in the Institute’s research
Support the development of compelling materials and activities promoting evidence from TGI’s research that has clear implications for policy and/or practice
Support obtaining funding through the inclusion of I&E activities in successful research applications, and by winning commissions for standalone advocacy/policy engagement activities
Our Successful Candidate:
Essential
Experience of advocacy, policy influencing and strategy development in the global health or related sectors
Experience of stakeholder coordination across multiple organisations and teams
Experience of building and sustaining strong, mutually beneficial partnerships to achieve impactful outcomes
Desirable
Experience of working in an academic research environment
Experience of engaging with relevant Australian Government departments and the Parliamentary system
Experience of relevant health advocacy and policy issues in Australia and globally
