Pro-Rata Salary Range of $144,804 to $152k Base (dependent on experience, skills and capabilities) plus 11% Superannuation + Smart Salary Packaging Benefit

We are seeking a highly motivated and professional Senior Research Fellow within the Women’s Health Program under the umbrella of the newly established Centre for Sex and Gender Equity in Health and Medicine.  

 

The Opportunity: 

The SRF will work within the Women’s Health program at The George Institute for Global Health (TGI) undertaking studies that are directed to advancing Sex and Gender Equity in Health and Medicine. The SRF will function increasingly independently, while aligning with the Program’s goals and the directives of the Centre’s Director. In this capacity the SRF will contribute to the establishment of the new Centre for Sex and Gender Equity in Health and Medicine, contributing knowledge and forging connections to advance this initiative.

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Lead the establishment and development of a clearly defined research program within the Centre
  • Leadership of some initial research projects
  • Obtain personal research funding, and/or project funding
  • Lead grant writing and revenue raising for the development of new projects
  • Write academic manuscript(s) for peer reviewed publication, reporting findings and recommendations for improvement.
  • Contribute to proposal and budget development supporting on-topic research projects
  • Budget management
  • Develop and lead a small research team, including the supervision of Masters and in the longer term, PhD students
  • Directly write and guide students and other team members in the development of reports or analyses that are suitable for publication in high impact journals
  • Foster strategic research collaborations with other researchers on projects both within and external to the Centre
  • Develop and maintain national and international links to support the Program’s activities
  • Attend regular meetings of established projects
  • Ensure that research being conducted is congruent with world best practice
  • Demonstrate and model understanding and adherence to TGI values
  • Remain abreast of developments in the related program that are relevant to the study and TGI; providing a source of information to colleagues within the Institute.
  • Actively develop and promote the desired culture of TGI by ensuring all interactions, documentation and communication are conducted in a manner which supports the stated mission
  • Contribute to teaching activities within TGI and at the University of New South Wales and supervise students in medical and public health courses. 

 

Our Successful Candidate:

Essential

  • Relevant health / medical qualification
  • PhD in a relevant health related discipline
  • Seasoned researcher or leader of a small research theme within a program
  • Experience in the management of research projects and/or clinical trials
  • Demonstrated track record in application and procurement of grants and funds
  • Experienced in writing high impact research papers
  • Experience and/or ability in people management and primary supervisor of post-graduate students
  • Advanced technical writing and oral presentation skills
  • Developed decision making, problem solving, analytical skills, and strategic thinking
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills
  • Experience experience with budget proposals and development
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well and flexibly i.e. autonomously, in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders
  • Ability to see the big picture, yet still focus on detail
  • Availability and willingness to travel.

Desirable

  • Developed communications skills
  • Advocate on the topic of Sex and Gender equity in health and medicine in public and academic forums and in the media
