Context and Role 

TGI is committed to developing a program of work and impact in the Environment Change and Health and Planetary Health domains. A global health research centre (GHRC) is being established by George Institute for Global Health India (TGI) in collaboration with Imperial College London and the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh and the University of Brawijaya in Indonesia. The centre will be focused on rapidly growing burden of Non-Communicable Diseases and the existential threat of global environmental change.

 The Centre will undertake the development and implementation of this complex, multi-site, transdisciplinary research programme in addition to extensive research capacity building and community engagement activities. It requires the co-ordination of research teams and groups across different research groups in these 3 countries.

 Building on the TGI's Healthier Society and Better Care strategies the Centre will strengthen our capability to respond to the Planetary Health research agenda and grow our ability to be competitive to leverage follow on funding in this space from a range of peer-reviewed and philanthropic funding agencies who are increasing focusing funding calls in this space.

The Communications Officer will be based in the India office at New Delhi or Hyderabad and collaborate with the centre partners and program leads to strategize, coordinate and disseminate knowledge generated at the centre with external stakeholders.

Reporting Relationships

The Communications Officer will report to Abhishek Shandilya, Communications Manager, TGI India, with a dotted reporting to Dr Madhuri Dutta, Head CORE India.


Duties and Key Responsibilities

We are looking for a communications or public relations professional with strong understanding of communications for public and global health to grow our research programs and build brand portfolio with relevant stakeholders. The communications officer will be responsible for:

Content Creation:

  • Collaborate with researchers to translate complex scientific findings into accessible and engaging content for different audiences, including policymakers, practitioners, and the general public.
  • Develop communication materials such as summaries, infographics, blog posts, news stories, and press releases to effectively communicate research outcomes.
  • Coordinate the dissemination of research outputs through various channels, including social media, conferences, workshops, and webinars.


  • Support Knowledge Management Team in organizing Online and In-person Events.
  • Support event agenda, list of potential invitees, concept note and invitation copy.
  • Sending event invitations or emailers and manage registrations list.

Media Relations:

  • Working with the media agency and the Communications Manager to distribute press releases.
  • Building relationships and following up with journalists to ensure strong coverage of GHRC’s research.
  • Tracking and recording media coverage and maintaining a database of media contacts.

Digital Engagement:

  • Updating and managing NIHR GHRC website.
  • Draft social media posts for channels such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc. 
  • Support the Communications Team in executing social media campaigns.

Any other task assigned by the Communications Manager.

  • Participate in team meetings and activities with other relevant groups and committees and present own work area.
  • Participate in special projects to improve processes, tools, systems and organisation.
  • Take responsibility for personal learning and development and for setting achievable and meaningful work objectives and managing personal targets, meeting obligations of the Institute’s Performance Management and Development Policy.

Work, Health and Safety

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Portfolio of 5 years demonstrating your skills and experience in content writing, digital media, and communications.
  • Qualifications: Masters degree in media or communications or related fields would be preferred.
  • Good organisation skills, with the ability to multitask and deliver to deadlines.
  • Content writing experience for both print media as well as digital media.
  • Experience in delivering content on short notice.
  • Expertise in working with media agencies.
  • Pro-active approach with the ability to keep reporting manager updated on the status.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to take direction.
  • Experience with Mailchimp or similar email marketing tools with skills to design and send emailers and newsletters.
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or similar tools for images.
  • Familiarity with social media publishing, monitoring, management, and analytics.
  • Good experience working on content management systems like Drupal or Wordpress.
  • Experience managing and growing social media accounts and communities – preferably from health or education sector.
  • Knowledge and experience of doing digital engagement.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with high level of proficiency in written and spoken English and ability to work well autonomously.
  • Demonstrated capability to produce outcomes and achieve objectives within agreed time periods;
  • Strong problem solving, analytical skills, and proven strategic thinking;
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness, with ability to influence others to achieve common goals.
