We are seeking an accomplished Philanthropy Manager, Trusts and Foundations to lead a portfolio of philanthropic trusts and foundations, driving strategic engagement and securing significant funding. This role demands a proactive approach to identifying, cultivating, and securing transformative grants, while also fostering long-term relationships with funders. A strong focus on pipeline development and conversion will be essential to ensuring sustained growth and impact.

The Philanthropy Team

At The George Institute, the Philanthropy Team consists of four streams of work including Personal Giving, Structured Giving, Campaigns and Operations. Our work is not just about raising funds, it is about mobilising a coalition of visionaries, partners, and communities to drive real, measurable change in global health. You will work alongside leading experts in the field, engage with donors, and contribute to The George Institute’s mission globally.

The Philanthropy Manager, Trusts and Foundations will drive fundraising efforts by securing and managing relationships with trusts, and foundations, with the capacity to give over $1million. As part of the Structured Giving Team, this role involves identifying funding opportunities, crafting compelling grant proposals, and ensuring grant reporting requirements are met. You will also play a key role in cultivating and stewarding donor relationships to build long-term partnerships.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of philanthropy who is looking to focus on and build their experience in expert relationship development. To succeed in this position, you will need a long-term approach to donor relationships, along with the discipline and self-motivation to execute short-term plans that contribute to broader goals. The role requires adaptability to the evolving philanthropic landscape and the ability to develop and implement donor strategies at various stages of the giving journey.

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Pipeline Development and Portfolio Management:

  • Develop and implement a strategic approach to securing funding from trusts and foundations to support The George Institute’s mission.
  • Identify and conduct in-depth research into mission-aligned funders to build a robust pipeline of opportunities.
  • Personally manage and grow a portfolio of trusts and foundations, guiding them through the donor journey from identification to solicitation and stewardship. 

Grant Writing and Proposal Development:

  • Research, craft, and submit compelling grant proposals tailored to funders’ priorities and demonstrating The George Institute’s impact and funding needs.
  • Ensuring timely submission of applications and reports, meeting contractual requirements as well as inspiring deeper donor engagement.
  • Support The George Institute’s researchers to build their capacity to successfully secure funding.

Relationship Management and Stewardship:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers within trusts and foundations.
  • Develop tailored engagement and stewardship plans to deepen donor relationships and demonstrate the impact of their contributions.
  • Facilitate donor engagement activities, in collaboration with other teams, including bespoke engagement, reports, and tailored communications.
  • Ensure compliance with grant deliverables, collaborating with internal stakeholders, to provide accurate data and reporting.
  • Maintain up-to-date donor records, ensuring timely follow-ups and engagement opportunities.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:-

  • Proven experience in trusts and foundations fundraising and relationship management in the not-for-profit sector or related field.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for building and maintaining donor relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for crafting persuasive proposals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve fundraising goals. 
  • Understanding of philanthropic trends, donor motivations, and stewardship strategies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with CRM systems like Salesforce or Raiser's Edge.

 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and trends.
  • Experience in the global health sector.
