The Opportunity

We have a unique opportunity for a clinically trained academic with proven expertise in trial design to lead and grow a diverse portfolio of large-scale clinical trials. 

Reporting to the Executive Director, UK this role is pivotal in enhancing the ability for TGI to deliver margin-generating trials and fostering collaboration between academia and the life sciences sector. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:-

  • Identify and pursue new commercial and collaborative trial opportunities aligned with the Hub's mission and margin-generating strategy
  • Lead and support the design and delivery of large-scale, multi-centre clinical trials within the Hub, ensuring scientific rigour, efficiency and operational excellence 
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with pharmaceutical companies, biotechs, device and digital health companies, other ARO's, CRO's and funding agencies 
  • Contribute to the development of innovative trial methodologies, including adaptive, decentralised, and platform trial designs
  • Provide scientific and clinical leadership across all stages of trial development — from concept and protocol design to implementation, analysis, and publication
  • Support the training and mentorship of early-career clinical researchers within the Hub and across partner institutions
  • Represent the Hub at national and international scientific meetings, industry forums, and collaborative networks
  • Contribute to the preparation & submission of Requests for Proposals (RFP) and participate in bid defence meetings for new projects

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:-  

Essential 

  • Medical qualification with full registration and relevant clinical experience, ideally in cardiology, diabetes, nephrology, brain sciences, multimorbidity, or intensive care
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing, conducting, and leading large-scale clinical trials, preferably multi-country or multi-centre
  • Proven success in securing major research funding
  • Strong track record of high-impact peer-reviewed publications
  • Clear understanding of the commercial and operational landscape for AROs and CROs, including costing models and service delivery structures
  • In-depth knowledge of clinical trial methodology
  • Established relationships with key stakeholders in pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Commitment to research integrity, equity, efficiency, and patient-centred innovation 

Desirable 

  • PhD in clinical epidemiology, biostatistics, or clinical research methodology
  • Experience in building or scaling clinical trial business units 
  • Experience in developing or participating in international clinical trial research networks
  • Academic or professorial appointment at a world-class university or medical research institute
