Working in Council’s Infrastructure Delivery Section, this position performs a key role by driving a truck equipped with a Jet Patcher to patch urban streets and operates a variety of small to medium sized plant and equipment on maintenance and construction jobs.

Reporting to the Team Leader Maintenance, you will:

  • Operate trucks equipped with a Jet Patcher to maintain the sealed road network within council boundary.Operates trucks to move items of plant and equipment, either on the truck body or by towing.
  • Load trucks, using front end loaders or manually.
  • Operate plant and equipment in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with relevant laws, regulations and guidelines and with the regard to the safety of the public and other employees.
  • Perform routine day-today maintenance and repairs to assigned plant and equipment to maximise the reliable and useful life of machines and their accessories, including checking and changing all oil and hydraulic fluid levels, lubricating parts, changing filters, etc.
  • Assist Council's workshop staff with major services and repairs as required
  • Ensure that all work conforms to required safety standards, including completion of risk assessments and site-specific training for employees / contractors, installation and maintenance of signage, and implementation of Safe Work Method Statements and Traffic Control Plans.

Specifically, you will have:


  • Class HR driver's licence (Heavy Rigid)
  • Demonstrated ability to competently operate tipping trucks and small to medium sized construction plant
  • An understanding of basic mechanical principles and the ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on plant and equipment
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and procedures and accurately complete maintenance records and other routine forms
  • Ability to accurately calculate and / or estimate the quantity, weight and area of road making materials
  • Safe Work NSW WHS General Construction Induction (White Card)


  • Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance)
  • Apply Traffic Control Certificate of Competence
  • Front End Loader Driver Certificate of Competence
