THE POSITION
This position will operate mowers, utilities, trucks and other minor plant to mow and maintain parks, sporting fields and reserves, and assists gardening staff with the cultivation, care and/or maintenance of trees, gardens, sports fields, cemeteries, street landscapes and park structures.

You will:

  • Operate machinery including tractors with slashers, ride-on lawn mowers, whipper-snippers, trucks, loader, utilities and hand mowers to carry out the maintenance duties within the Recreation and Open Spaces areas including the maintenance required for that machine in accordance with Councils vehicle user and maintenance log. 
  • Assist gardening staff to mix and apply herbicides and pesticides in accordance with manufacturers' instructions, carry out the maintenance, repair and/or construction of structures and facilities.
  • Prune and / or remove trees.
  • Carry out the required duties at Council’s cemeteries when required, including burials and maintenance.
  • Conform to regulations governing air, water and noise pollution when performing work and brings potential breaches of regulations to the attention of the supervisor.
  • Maintain records relevant to the duties of the position, including timesheets, truck and plant maintenance logs, and site specific WHS records.
  • Direct the flow of traffic at work sites, including the use of stop/go signs to regulate traffic flow and maintain safety.
  • Participate in training as required.
  • Remove garbage from rubbish bins on public parks, streets and reserves as required and assists with the cleaning of public amenities when cleaner is on leave if required.


WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Specifically, you will have:

  • Current Class C Drivers Licence – MR (Medium Rigid) preferable
  • Ability to operate a variety of power tools and minor plant items and parks maintenance equipment such as ride-on lawn mowers
  • Basic mechanical principles and the ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on plant and equipment
  • Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions and procedures and accurately complete maintenance records and other routine forms
  • Safe Work NSW WHS General Construction Induction (White Card)
