THE POSITION
The Trainee Finance Officer is a critical entry-level role within our local government organisation, designed to develop a skilled finance professional who will contribute to the financial management and administrative processes of the council.
Reporting to Management Accountant, you will:
Assist in processing accounts payable and receivable transactions
Prepare and reconcile financial documentation and spreadsheets
Support the compilation of routine financial reports
Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records
Participate in month-end and end-of-year financial processes
Assist in processing rates and property related transactions
Actively engage in structured on-the-job training and professional development
Attend internal and external training sessions to develop technical finance skills
Complete relevant vocational qualifications in accounting or business / finance
Learn and apply local government financial management principles and practices
Ensure compliance with local government financial regulations and accounting standards
Assist in maintaining financial control and governance frameworks
Support internal audit processes and documentation
Adhere to the council's policies, procedures, and ethical standards
Provide professional and courteous customer service to internal and external stakeholders
Respond to finance-related inquiries and requests
