THE POSITION
The Trainee Survey and Design Officer is a pivotal entry-level position within the Infrastructure Delivery team, designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of surveying, civil design, and infrastructure planning. This role provides a structured pathway for professional development in local government engineering services.
Reporting to Senior Design Officer, you will:
Collect and record accurate spatial data for infrastructure projects
Operate GPS, total stations, and other surveying instruments with guidance from experienced professionals
Prepare field notes and preliminary survey documentation
Participate in feature and detail surveys for road, drainage, and civil infrastructure projects
Support the design team in preparing preliminary and detailed engineering designs using computer-aided design (CAD) software
Assist design team in preparing traffic management schemes and traffic guidance schemes
Contribute to the development of engineering drawings and technical specifications
Compile and organise technical documentation for infrastructure projects
Support project managers in tracking project progress and documentation
Help maintain project files and digital record management systems
Contribute to quantity take-offs, project cost estimation and resource planning
Complete basic procurement
Assist in maintaining quality assurance processes
Adhere to workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements
Participate in internal quality review processes
Support the implementation of best practice surveying and design methodologies
